Willow Smith Rocks Teen Vogue
Willow Smith may be only 10 years old, but she is definitely ready for Teen Vogue. She is by far the most mature 10 year old I have ever seen. I love how she's mature but not quite grown enough to make you want to take off your belt. She still has a cute endearing child quality to her that I like. It amazes me how comfortable she is in front of the camera! She seems to pose without much coaching! Its funny when I compare her to other 10 year olds know, I'm baffled. Most 10 year olds are playing with toys, not dominating photo shoots and reading "Eat, Pray, Love". Willow is definitely in a class by herself. I dont know of a kid under 16 who could keep up with her.
Watch her behind the scenes video (below) where she talks about what music she likes (hint..she's a daddy's girl), how she comes up with her crazy hair-do's, her newfound fashion sense and how her parents failed at dressing her when she was little(er). I do love her fashion sense! I admire anyone who's not afraid to take risks....especially a kid! However, one of those outfits was channeling Olivia from 'The Cosby Show'. Imma have to pass on that one!
Peep how they show her reading haha! I wonder if that was planned (you KNOW it was!). Take that nay-sayers about her home schooling (or lack thereof?)! She might not have time for "maths" but at least she has time for books! Most of the kids I see who go to school would faint if you gave them a book. They'd probably react like this.
Here are some more tidbits from her interview (not shown in the video) and some of the shots from the photoshoot! Gotta love this kid! Im surprised we haven't seen her on the runway yet! Im sure that's coming shortly!
On her style: “I wear anything I feel like. If I want to put on a pair of Converse with a pencil stuck through them, I will. [Dolce & Gabbana’s] designs are really cool.”
On her hit Whip My Hair and its positive message: “When I first put ['Whip My Hair'] out, everyone was like, ‘Willow, Willow, I love your song!’ And I was like, ‘Really?’ Whipping your hair means not being afraid to be yourself. If people don’t like you, then bunck them, you know?”
On her parents inspiring her interest in music: “I used to go on tour with my mom and dad and see what they were doing, and I’d tell them, ‘Oh, I wanna do that, I wanna do that. Whenever I don’t feel like working, they say, ‘You don’t want that career? You have to work hard. They think I should keep working harder and harder.”
On growing up in the Smith household: “It’s pretty much a regular family. At dinner we talk about ‘What did you do today? What did you wear today?’ Not anything about work. They aren’t strict. They won’t be like, ‘Willow, clean up your room!’ They’ll be like, ‘Willow, will you please clean up your room?’ And I’ll be like, ‘OK,’ and do it.”
On being homeschooled part-time: “Whenever I’ve been gone from school for a long time and I come back, everyone’s like, ‘Willow!’ and I’m like, ‘Hiiiii!’”
On fame: “I have no privacy . . . even when I’m skating. You can pick how famous you want to be. If you don’t work hard, then you aren’t going to have the success that you want. But if you work hard and dig in, then you are going to have the success that you want.”
Some people may question the parenting skills of the Will and Jada , but I'm not gonna knock it because it seems to be working for them so far. Their kids seem more well mannered than a lot of the bad azz kids I encounter daily...but I guess time will tell! I pray that Willow doesnt get cracked out other child stars, but it doesn't look like that's gonna happen! She seems to have a pretty good head on her shoulders! So far she is a great role model! TEAM WILLOW!
