I remember when Usher first came out, I looooved me some him! I knew every song from "Call Me A Mack" to "Final Goodbye"--I bet most of you dont even know what that is. Then he came out with "You Make Me Wanna" and all of a sudden everyone was all over Usher like he was something new! YALL WERE LATE! DONT BE LATE THIS TIME!
Im letting you know NOW that Jussie Smollett (pronounced smoll-ETT..emphasize that ETT) is about to blow up! So be the first in your area to claim him, so you can feel special when people jump on your banwagon!
Jussie is cute, funny, smart, and talented....but thats not news coming from such a talented family! You might know him from a little show from a while back called "On Our Own"... remember the cute little curly haired Jericho kids? Yup! He was one of them!
Aside from seeing Jussie on TV, you may know him from films such as "The Mighty Ducks" and playing opposite Halle Berry and Danny Glover in "Queen". He's been all over TV and the big screen, now he is about to be all over the radio, with his forthcoming debut LP "The Poison Hearts Club", and first single 'Get Em Up', I can assure you that you will not be disappointed.
I'm excited for this project because the music industry is in need of true talent and of course eye candy! You can never get enough of that.
Forget all this yapping...why dont I just let you get to know Jussie for yourselves! I caught up with Jussie Smollett, and put him 'ON THE SPOT'...
RandomTandem: What's the hardest thing about growing up with 5 siblings?
Jussie Smollett: I guess I should say finding your own voice but my mom was always amazing about making sure we were seen as individuals so honestly that wasn't really a problem. Maybe just that there was so many asses that toilet paper never lasted that long.
RT: When do you plan on touring?
JS: We've been doing promo spot dates mostly in NYC and LA but starting February we'll start up hard. Rehearsing for it now. That's the best part of it. Seeing the peeps dance and have a dope experience. That's why I do it. I mean that and all this bling and fancy cars and shizz haha.
RT: How would you describe your music style?
JS: Kanye had sex with Katy Perry while listening to the King of Pop.
RT: Have you ever bought anything from a crackhead? If so, what was it?
Yes I have. I won't say what it was but for the record... it wasn't crack. (that's wack yo)
RT: What is your favorite flavor of kool aid?
JS: Red. Yeah that's a flavor for my real......
RT: If you could go on tour with anyone in the world, who would it be?
JS: Yeezy, Rihanna, Katy Perry, Jigga, Tim Mcgraw or Vusi Mahlasela.
RT: Have you ever used dishwashing liquid as bubble bath?
JS: you mean like Dawn? Of course. It gets grease out of the way.
RT: Whats the most embarrassing thing that has ever happened to you?
JS: I don't get embarrassed. I act like it doesn't matter to hide my true insecurities of feeling unworthy of love hahaha. I'm just joking. I have no idea. Damn you nosey!
RT: Have you ever had the pee dream? (the dream where you think you’re awake and going to the bathroom but youre really asleep and about to pee in your bed). If so, Did you make it out of the dream dry?
JS: I've never had that dream. Not the wet pee one at least.
RT: How did you come up with the name “The Poisoned Hearts Club”
JS: It's been a running theme with me. Sometimes bad things happen to really cool people. Sometimes you feel like "damn. exactly the opposite of who I am and what I represent and believe in just went down." How do you keep yourself from becoming jaded or so wounded that you're dead inside? Join The Poisoned Hearts Club. Everybody has, is or will be in one of those sitiuations. You're not the only one. You're only as alone as you feel inside.
RT: When will we see more funny videos on The Laugh Squad?
JS: My little brother, Jake is a genuis. I swear. I can't say when the next one with me will be done but he's poppin them out like a horny cat. I'm a huge fan of his stupid humor.
RT: What do you remember from being on “On Our Own”?
JS: It was a great time. I don't think I realized at the time what a groundbreaking moment that was. We were the first black family to ever have our own scripted show. I remember how much fun it was working with my brothers and sisters. There was no drama. No egos. It was all about family. That and all the 11 year old 'Billie Jeans' I had. Looking back I'm like damn. That girl said that at 11!
RT: Do you plan on doing more acting?
JS: Absolutely. For me it goes hand in hand. It's all entertainment and I'm an entertainer. I never stopped. I just went a little inward. There are too many projects that I'm passionate about bringing to life to not. Music is just where my focus is because I'm ready for people to see me for who I am. But I love showing who I can become.
RT: If you were a superhero what would your powers be? Why?
JS: Sometimes I feel like I would want to read minds but then that takes out the fun of getting to know someone. I'd be HE-MAN cuz he was a real person with extraordinary abilities. And he fought for the righteous ones (yeah it's that deep)
RT: Have you ever been in a fist fight? If so, did you win?
JS: Yeah I've been in fights. The best one was with George when we lived on 54th avenue in Queens. He kept picking on me because I was younger and then I said something and he said "yo mama"... So I had to show him what my mama's son could do. My mother always said never start a fight but if you have to... finish it. So I did. I'm a grown ass man now so I'm good on that.
RT: What played out style do you wish would come back?
JS: Mixed match Converse.
RT: What is your favorite TV Show?
JS: I Love Lucy, Martin, anything on the Food Network and the classic Being Bobby Brown
RT: Do you fart in elevators or hold them til you get off?
JS: Nah I wait. You're disgusting haha.
RT: If you could live anywhere in the world, where would it be? And why?
JS: Zurich, Switzerland. I lived there for 5 months and fell in love. It's just peaceful. Something about a country that never gets into war is really sexy to me. But i love NY and LA too.
RT: What producers would you like to work with in the future?
JS: I'd love to work with Linda Perry, Will-I-Am, Kanye... My producer Rene Bowers agrees with me. LP understands the vocalist because she has such a sick voice and her writing style feels like her heart might be a bit poisoned too. Will is just from some other planet and Kanye simply doesn't give a fuck which is so liberating as an artist. My mom told me when I was little, you have to perform, write and sing like you are naked. Nothing else matters. No inhibitions or insecurities. I respect artists like that.
RT: What was it like growing up as a bi-racial child.
JS: I never really looked at myself as bi-racial. I didn't really know what that meant. I still don't. There's one race... the Human race. I am bi-cultured. My mom is black and my dad is Jewish. I'm Blewish. But believe me I never got pulled over by a cop and they said "hey! You're bi-racial... Imma have to let you go" Nah son... I was still driving while black. But I don't know anything else so it was my life.
RT: Whats your favorite song on your album.
JS: The Storm. Means a lot personally.
RT: Whats your favorite childhood cartoon or tv show.
JS: Woody Woodpecker and Bionic 6. Dopest ever.
RT: Whats your favorite old school song?
JS: Off the Wall and Rock with You by MJ.
RT: What other ventures do you envision for the future?
JS: I want to compose for cartoons and write chick flicks when I get older. I'm such a hopeless romantic. But more than anything I would like to open my own healthcare and research facility to continue the work to battle HIV/AIDS and find a cure. I feel like we're forgetting that we don't have one yet. Also keep working to better the lives of women and children. They're the most beneficial beings to saving the world. Organizations like Artists for a New South Africa continue to do the work but if they're alone in the effort then where do we stand as humanity? Everyone has to take a large part in this. Sorry for rambling but I care so much about this. Maybe that's what my power would be if I were a superhero... I'd save the world.
